The Cake Maker (That's Me!!!)
Hello! Thank you for stopping by. My name is Sarah and I am the owner of The Cake Maker! Since I was old enough to use an Easy Bake Oven I have made my own baked creations. I would use that little oven all day and my dad would gobble it all up when he came home from work, no matter what it looked like! I am also an artist and I attend a few art shows a year just to be able to hang new work on my walls. My grandma and I decided to take all of the Wilton cake decorating courses one year and poof! The Cake Maker was born. Well… kind of. It was definitely the start! I made cakes just for fun for many years. In 2010 one of my brides nominated me to win The Knot’s Best Of Award for cakes for Colorado (they do it a little differently now) and I won! At that point I still did not give up my fulltime job to make cakes. It would take another six years for me to gather the courage!
My husband and I married in June 2015 at the beautiful AA Barn in Grand Lake, Colorado. Our amazing daughter was born on Valentine’s Day of 2016 at the same hospital that I was born. She is a sixth generation Coloradoan! In the fall of 2016 my husband and I decided that we did not want to take her to daycare anymore. Cameron made me feel so amazing, saying that we needed to raise our daughter and he would do anything to make it work. He could also see how happy I am making cakes and told me that I needed to pursue what I loved and that if I did not take the leap it may never happen. He is my rock every day! So I quit the job that I had done every summer since I turned 18 and I have not regretted it a moment. It is so wonderful getting to do something that I love along with being able to raise our daughter. My husband and I still enjoy doing the winter job where we met; so during the winter months we work for my parents and our daughter gets to know both of her grandmas and her grandpa a little better.
Cameron and I still LOVE Grand Lake and we take Amelia with us now. We go moose “hunting” with our cameras and have breakfast at Fat Cat’s! She loves the outdoors so much, so we take her to do something outside every chance we get. One her favorite things to do is fishing, which is wonderful since it is one of ours! We are also avid Denver Bronco’s fans! Amelia is starting to get excited with us when the team scores a touchdown instead of looking at her daddy like he has grown another head!
I utilize the Colorado Cottage Food Law to make my cakes from my home. This law requires safe food handling classes to be taken and I have achieved this certificate. I purchase all of my ingredients within three days of the event and I have my own refrigerator and storage for my cake items in my office. I make everything from scratch using recipes that have been passed down by family and ones that I have come up with on my own! Each cake is a work of art that I put my heart into, so I deliver and setup myself for free to most locations.
I do operate on a first come, first served basis because I typically will only book one event per day. I will add your event to my schedule once I receive a $50 deposit along with a signed copy of my cake contract, which is viewable on this website.
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me through the years, and thank you to those to come! You are making my dreams a reality and I hope that I can be a part of your special day!
